As the Assistant Manager - Patient Food, at the Stanton Hospital in Yellowknife, reporting to the Food Services Manager, you will successfully coordinate and oversee all relevant activities of the Patient Food Operation with a special emphasis on Quality Assurance, Dietetic Undertakings (liaison with RDs), Food Safety (HACCP), and Occupational Health & Safety.  The individual must be a team leader/team builder and is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and controlling departmental staff, resources and activities to meet established standards and ensure the efficient and effective operation of the Patient Food department.

Your work will include:

  • Maintains responsibility and accountability for personnel management functions of the department by utilizing support departments such as Human Resources, Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Personnel Management includes new associate interviews, selection, hiring, training, evaluation and on occasion discipline and/or termination in accordance with Human Resources Policies and applicable Union Collective Agreement
  • Maintains responsibility and accountability for the Financial Management of costs and expenses.
  • Focuses on Quality Management to ensure established standards including HACCP standards and Retail Operational outcomes are met and maintained by performing daily/weekly/monthly inspections of retail operational equipment and procedural logs.
  • Develops and follows appropriate policies, procedures, job routines to meet the needs of the Retail Operation.
  • Adhere to all required health and safety regulations and procedures while preparing food including:
    • Using proper techniques when using the tools, supplies, and equipment provided (i.e. knives, ovens, cleaning materials)
    • Wearing and correctly using proper personal protective equipment (i.e. non-slip shoes, cut resistant gloves)
    • Monitoring equipment and notifying appropriate parties of malfunctioning or in need of repair equipment
    • Complying with Food Safety (HACPP) guidelines including the recording of all time temperature sensitive food items
  • Adhere to portioning of food item standards to ensure recipe yield meets quantity and budget expectations
  • Staff Training & Development responsibilities:
    • Maintain training logs for all staff
    • Develop training programs – monthly meeting & daily huddle calendar
    • Orientational training for all new hires

Qualifications

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • 1-3 years’ supervisory experience in Patient Food Service Operation or equivalent education (Dietetic courses) / training (RD/Diet Technician)
  • Advanced (Level 2) Food Safety Certification
  • Successful Vulnerable Police Check is mandatory
  • Must be available to work flexible shifts; days, evenings and weekends
  • Physical demand include, but are not limited to walking, standing, reaching, pulling, pushing and lifting up to 40 lbs. frequently
  • Exposure to extremely hot and extremely cold liquids
  • Will be constantly exposed to high temperatures in the kitchen environment, as well as exposure to cold
  • Long periods of standing
  • Reach & lift between 0 -40 lbs.
